Good Food for All

The Hartford Advisory Commission on Food Policy advocates for GOOD FOOD FOR ALL through strategic initiatives focused on food access, food jobs and businesses, and urban agriculture. “GOOD FOOD” encompasses many qualities: it is readily accessible during emergencies, affordable for everyone, easy to locate and reach, and ethically produced to benefit all stakeholders from farm to plate. It is nutritionally and culturally nourishing, produced sustainably within the Earth’s capacity, resilient to climate change, and, whenever possible, locally or regionally sourced and diverted from landfills. Their commitment is to ensure that every community member enjoys these benefits, fostering a healthier and more just food system for all.

All of us at Hartford Food Systems are grateful to the city and the commission for recognizing the need and committing to creating a sustainable local food system. Their dedication is critical in addressing food insecurity and promoting a healthier community. The following report outlines in detail the current needs and offers comprehensive recommendations to achieve these goals, ensuring that every community member has access to nutritious, affordable, and culturally appropriate food.
